Construction Industry Trends: 2025 Reflections & What’s Next

Back in early 2025, Texas A&M released an article highlighting predictions for the construction industry, from technology and workforce development to sustainability and safety. Now, as the year winds down, it’s the perfect time to reflect on how these predictions have played out, what lessons we’ve learned, and how the industry is evolving heading into 2026.

From new technology to talent pipelines and safer, more sustainable practices, the construction, industrial, and oil & gas sectors are shifting quickly, and staying ahead is more important than ever.

Top Highlights from 2025

  • Tech & Automation: AI, digital twins, and automation have transformed project management, improving efficiency and hazard awareness².

  • Workforce & Training: Apprenticeship programs and hands-on development are helping bridge the skills gap, while instilling a culture of safety from day one¹.

  • Sustainability & Modular Construction: Mass timber and offsite construction methods are reducing waste, improving efficiency, and creating safer, more organized job sites³.

Looking Ahead: 2026 Predictions

According to Deloitte’s 2026 Engineering & Construction Outlook⁴, next year will bring both challenges and opportunities:

  • Resilient Supply Chains: Rising material costs and supply pressures will continue to test project planning⁴.

  • Growth in Data Centers & Energy Infrastructure: High-tech builds will demand rigorous safety protocols and precise planning⁴.

  • Digital Transformation & AI: Predictive analytics, computer vision, and digital twins will redefine safety and project management⁴. NWS is also preparing its own AI software, designed to identify risks, train smarter, and operate safer. (Details coming soon!)

  • Labor Shortages & Digital Upskilling: Workforce development remains a key challenge, but structured training programs will help teams stay prepared and capable⁴.
