This month highlights National Preparedness Month, Construction Suicide Prevention Week (Sept. 8–12), and National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (Sept. 14–20). National Preparedness Month is a call to action: does your team know the evacuation plan, the shelter-in-place locations, and how to communicate in an emergency? According to FEMA, 60% of Americans have not practiced what to do in a disaster by participating in a disaster drill or preparedness exercise at work, school, or home in the past year. Construction Suicide Prevention Week shines a much-needed spotlight on mental health in the industry. With construction workers facing a suicide rate four times higher than the national average, conversations around stress, fatigue, and well-being are more important than ever.
