September reminds us that safety is more than compliance—it’s preparation, awareness, and care for the people we work alongside every day. This month highlights National Preparedness Month, Construction Suicide Prevention Week (Sept. 8–12), and National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (Sept. 14–20). These observances allow us to pause, reflect, and reinforce best practices while honoring the people who keep our industries moving.
National Preparedness Month is a call to action: does your team know the evacuation plan, the shelter-in-place locations, and how to communicate in an emergency? According to FEMA, 60% of Americans have not practiced what to do in a disaster by participating in a disaster drill or preparedness exercise at work, school, or home in the past year. Creating or refreshing your Emergency Action Plan this month could be the difference between chaos and control when disaster strikes. As one safety leader once said, “Preparedness is not an option, it’s a responsibility.” MediaRoom Demo
Construction Suicide Prevention Week shines a much-needed spotlight on mental health in the industry. With construction workers facing a suicide rate four times higher than the national average, conversations around stress, fatigue, and well-being are more important than ever. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is available 24/7 at 988. Please share it with your teams. When we break the stigma and create supportive environments, we help save lives both on and off the job site. OSHA
Finally, we recognize National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, honoring the men and women who keep supply chains moving safely. From long hours to challenging conditions, truck drivers face unique risks, and safety programs tailored to their needs, covering fatigue management, ergonomics, and situational awareness, can make all the difference.
At NW Safety, we believe safety is a culture built through training, awareness, and accountability. Our OSHA-certified instructors deliver flexible, bilingual training designed around your schedule, covering everything from fall protection and electrical safety to hazard communication and PPE. Beyond training, our experts provide consulting, audits, and contract staffing to help your projects run smoothly and safely. Let’s work together to keep your team prepared, protected, and thriving.
